Source of finance

Source of finance
Positives
Negatives
Examples
Bank Loan
Larger scale budget
You will have to pay off the loan + Interest and if your product isn’t successful you could be in debt.
For example, Gareth Edwards took out a bank loan for his movie but he made a large profit so he was able to pay it off.
Crowd Funding
Works as a donation and you don’t have to pay any of it back
You don’t know how much money you will receive; it could be a lot and it could be very little or nothing at all.
One mile away use Kickstarter for their budget.
Grant/Funding
These are not repayable so it doesn’t matter if your product is unsuccessful
They are a nonprofit organisation

Private Investment

You have to make a profit0

Self-Funding
You don’t have to pay any back and your budget can be as big as you want.
If your product isn’t successful, you’ll be losing money out of your own pocket.

Local authority or public investment
Your film could be funded by your local council
You’ll more than likely not have a very large budget.

I have done a source of finance table so i can easily identify the different ways that i can fund my movie and chose the one that is best suitable for me. It is important that i use this because if i chose the wrong source of finance it could have a bad impact on my production. I have chosen this format so it's easier to identify all the positives and negatives and the difference between the different types of finance. This is relevant to my pre-production process as i am making a zero budget movie that is going to be non profitable so its important i am aware of all the different types of finance if i was to need any funding.
