Opening scenes (Avatar & Drag me to Hell)
Avatar – Opening scene breakdown analysis
I am doing a breakdown analysis of the opening scene of
avatar. Avatar is the most famous movie of all time. Their budget was $237
Million and earned a staggering $2.788 billion at the box office. That’s 11.7x
there budget. Therefore making it the highest grossing movie ever. I am going
to analise the opening scene to the movie as the opening scene of a movie is
what gives it a good impression.
So what exactly made
it so great?
The opening scene: https://youtu.be/MeXS51vwIWk
This scene contains lots of different elements –
Mystery, Sorrow, grief and loss ,Action and adventure
These elements intrigue the viewer and keep them on the edge of their
seat. It brings them in and keeps them interested. If you have an opening scene
that doesn’t keep the viewer interested – they’re going to give the movie a bad
rating.
In my opening scene – I’m going to be using elements of suspense and
mystery to create fear as my movie is a thriller. It is key to create fear in
the first couple of moments when making a horror/thriller for it to be enjoyed
as its used as a taste for what the rest of the movie holds.
Drag me to hell opening scene – This horror movie opening scene could
be considered one of the most scariest of all time and really creates a chill
and its only a taste of the entire movie

Personally – this movie is one of the most scariest i've ever watched. It
received only positive reviews and made 3x its budget.
this is relevant to my pre-production process as i will be using insperation from other movies to make my own. i used an example from the highest grossing movie ever - avatar - and a succesful horror movie as my movie is a horror movie and i would like it to be successful.
